Despite the myth of a humanist, multicultural, and inclusive Canada, human rights abuses that keep racialized poor immigrants marginalized, persist. Aaraón DÃaz Mendiburo has directed another film. His new documentary, "Matices: Migración âTemporalâ en Canadá" (Perspectives: âTemporaryâ Migration in Canada), focuses on the lives and working conditions of people working under Canada's Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP). We discuss the SAWP, the need for Canadians to strengthen relationships and solidarity with people working here without full rights, and touch on how Canada, amoungst other Western countries, remains firmly in the hands of the capitalist paradigm, bowing before a culture that encourages the violation of the rights and freedoms of other beings for profit.
