speech discussing Al Gore's record as covered in his recent book with Jeffrey St. Clair
Producer: Eric Rehder-WSUM Uploaded by: Eric Rehder-WSUM
This is a recording of a speech made by Alexander cockburn in Madison, Wi Oct 18, 2000.
There is a slight break between files while I flipped the tape, sorry about that. For you broadcasters with prurient ears at 8:13 in the second file Cockburn quotes Clinton and says fucking. If your short on time listen to at least the last 7:24 minutes of the second file. Here Cockburn is no longer talking about Gore as much as the system in general. He discusses the notion that you can predict the type of supreme court justice a president will appoint. Over the last 50 years he presents a dozen cases where conservative presidents were appointing the most liberal justices and vice versa. He goes on to argue that the social justice legislation in the 1960's and 70's were the result of the mass political movements, and not the product of the specific elected representatives.
