Dear Radio Friend,
This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche-Welle, Spanish National radio, Radio Havana Cuba, and Sputnik Radio.

From GERMANY- Europeans paid attention to the US midterm elections, hoping that both the Congress and Senate would be won by Democrats. Here is the perspective of Daniela Schwarzer, Director of the German Council on Foreign Relations.

From SPAIN- Alison Hughes reports on the US restoring sanctions against Iran. The eight largest importers of oil from Iran were granted waivers, but the oil output from Iran had already been cut by a third. An interview with an oil expert on the impact the sanctions will have on Europe.

From CUBA- Imprisoned former Brazilian President Lula da Silva's defense team is filing a writ of habeas corpus, saying that the judge showed clear bias and political motivation- the judge, Sergio More, was just appointed Minister of Justice under the new president Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro also appointed as Economic Minister investment banker Paulo Guedes. US led warplanes launched several new airstrikes in Syria, killing at least 3 children and 15 civilians. The US and Japan have been conducting the biggest combat ready exercise ever staged in and around Japan- Canada has also joined in with a naval supply ship.

From RUSSIA- Sophie interviewed Stephen Cohen about the US withdrawal from the historic nuclear arms treaty with Russia. They discuss detente, what has changed since 1987, and how the change will affect Europe. Stephen also talks about the seemingly vanished anti-nuclear weapons movement in the US, right at the moment when the possibility of a nuclear war is accelerating.
