The United States is accusing the Syrian government of using chemical weapons against rebels, but a BBC report out May 2 indicates people in the Middle East and the West reject U.S. intervention to oust President Bashir al-Assad. Richard Becker of the ANSWER Coalition visits Liberation Radio via Skype to discuss the latest in Syria, the chemical weapons claims and more.

President Obama told the media May 2 that he backs the Food and Drug Administration’s announcement to allow the sale of the emergency contraception pill, also known as “Plan B,” to women 15 years and older. However, reproductive rights organizations have criticized how age checks are likely to be applied. Andrea Costello of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund touched base with Liberation Radio to talk about what's happening.

Iran will be holding its presidential election this coming June. The politicians in Washington would like to see the outgoing government of President Ahmadinejad, which has insisted on Iranian sovereignty and its right to pursue a nuclear program, replaced with one that will bend to U.S. interests. Iran is under crushing sanctions aimed at pressuring the independent country into submitting to Washington's dictates. Earlier in the month, Iran offered concessions during negotiations, but they were rebuffed by the U.S. and others. Mazda Majidi joins Liberation Radio by phone to discuss the context to Western imperialism and Iran.
