On April 13, demonstrations took place in Washington DC and across the country against the use of drones that have killed thousands in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and around the globe. The Washington demonstration, organized by the ANSWER Coalition and endorsed by dozens of individuals and organizations, brings attention to what is mounting public concern over drones as weapons of war. On the first of April, a team of Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam veterans, active-duty soldiers and military families launched an outreach and visibility campaign at Fort Hood, Texas, the biggest U.S. military base in the world, to bring a simple message to soldiers: âYou donât have to go to Afghanistan.â The effort was timed ahead of a May deployment of troops to that country.
