Since its inception in 1846, the orphanage that would become the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls has been revitalizing and renewing the lives of at-risk youth, teaching them behavioral and educational skills for a happy, healthy, and productive future. This community resource provides residential group counseling (where youths live with ‘teaching parents’ in a collaboratively nurturing household) and alternative education at the John G. Wood School (where youths are tutored intensively with individualized attention). Inspire Indeed speaks with Claiborne Mason, President of VHBG, and Pendle Whisnant, John G.
