MIA’s new video ‘Born Free’ – directed by Romain Gavras – is reviewed by BASICS Culture Commentator JD Benjamin. As well, we play the new Mos Def / Lenny Kravitz collabo “Ain’t My Fault” on the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, in addition to the jazz collabo: “Shame, shame, shame” that was feauture on a recent episode of David Simon’s new series Treme – also a massive collabo critiquing the US government’s actions, in this case post-Katrina New Orleans.

Feature interview with youth organizer Daniel from Esplanade Community Organization on the ongoing struggle in that hood against police brutality and building a united community.
