I talk with Antonio Alves, president of the non-profit organization Ontario Framers Association, about this recent workplace disaster and issues surrounding workplace health and safety for those working within the construction industry, including people with precarious and no 'status'.

On the night of January 7 2010, a vigil was held at building site 2757 Kipling Avenue in Toronto, ON. This is the site where Alexander Bondorev, Aleksey Blumberg, Fayzullo Fazilov and Vladimir Korostin plummeted 13 floors to their deaths, falling from a suspended construction platform this past Christmas eve. A fifth victim of this horrific calamity is Dilshod Mamurov, who will remain in critical condition for the rest of his life. Hundreds gathered to express their grief and anger to this tragedy and surrounding the countless number of people who have also worked undocumented or under migrant labour programs and have been killed or maimed at work.
