It was less than two years ago, in 2008, that we received reports of food shortages in Haiti so great that there was widespread eating of mud cakes. How would Haiti have fared if it had been more resilient before the quake? Could stronger local economies have prevented some of the destruction in the quake and led to a faster recovery afterwards?
