Before we get into our forum on Gaza, here's an announcement of an important event coming up on Monday, March 22nd (2021): World Water Day. The Alliance for Water Justice is marking the day with a special virtual celebration they are calling Water, Health and Human Rights: Marking World Water Day, from the U.S. to Palestine. Keynote speaker is Rep. Rashida Tlaib who sponsored in Congress the "Emergency Water is a Human Right Act." Other Presenters include: Monica Lewis-Patrick, We the People of Detroit; Mahtowin Munro, United American Indians of New England; Nidal al-Azraq,; Jehad Abusalim, American Friends Service Committee; Check the Alliance website ( for details on how to register for the World Water Day Webinar.
Today we focus on Gaza through a webinar sponsored by the Foundation for Middle East Peace. In this forum we examine the situation in the Gaza Strip, including how the Gaza Strip has been isolated from the West Bank and besieged by Israel, the role of Hamas and related Palestinian political dynamics, and the humanitarian situation in light of repeated Israeli military campaigns, more than a decade of blockade, and now COVID19. Our panel includes: Jehad Abusalim from Gaza. He is the Palestine activism education and policy associate at the American Friends Service Committee in Chicago; Tania Hary who is the Executive Director of Gisha – Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, whose goal is to protect the freedom of movement of Palestinians, especially Gaza residents; and Omar Shaban, founder and director of the Gaza-based PalThink for Strategic Studies, an independent think tank with no political affiliation. The panel is moderated by Khaled Elgindy, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute where he also directs the Program on Palestine and Israeli-Palestinian Affairs.
