From JAPAN- The Japanese Foreign Minister says his country will try to mediate between Iran and the US, with Prime Minister Abe visiting Iran in a few weeks. Some Japanese trains will be running on hydrogen fuel cells by the mid-2020s. A survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing by the US, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear weapons, was awarded a degree from the University of Toronto. The Israeli military bombed military sites in Syria last weekend, killing at least 7 civilians.

From CUBA- The US Treasury Department announced new restrictions on US citizens travel to Cuba, citing Cuba's relationship with Venezuela and Nicaragua. A Viewpoint editorial piece on the US blaming Cuba for the failure of self-proclaimed president Juan Guiado to complete his attempted coup. US military troops along with members of homeland security are in Guatemala to advise on preventing immigrants hoping to reach the US. France and Britain have condemned Israel's recent approval of plans for the construction of hundreds of new settler units in occupied east Jerusalem.

From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed journalist Matt Taibbi. They discuss the case of Julian Assange whose health is seriously deteriorating while being held in a high-security British prison, awaiting extradition. New espionage charges in the US are leading many American journalists to become concerned for Assange's fate since they could be indicted for similar acts. The US trade war on China could have a huge impact on Britain, whom the US needs support from in its conflict with Iran. And the media is red-baiting Tulsi Gabbard and Bernie Sanders.

From GERMANY- A court in Sweden rejected a request to detain Julian Assange. Trump made a controversial trip to the UK with large protests largely ignored by the press, he and the mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn, exchanged insults. Young people in Europe are demanding that their governments make climate change the top priority- in the German Parliament they staged a die-in, and Greta Thunberg is leading protests that are beginning to convert European opinion.
