Radio Curious visits with Helen Cohen and Mark Lipman, directors and producers of âStates of Grace,â a film about Dr. Grace Damman, a physician who uses her buddhist practice to heal and accept a life altering disability caused by a car accident.
Barry Vogel, Attorney and Counselor, is the Host and Producer of Radio Curious. Christina Aanestad is the Assistant Producer.
On May 21, 2008 Dr. Grace Damman was crushed in a head-on collision on San Franciscoâs Golden Gate Bridge. Her abdominal organs were shoved into her lung cavity and her bones and muscles were extensively injured.Â
A practicing Buddhist, Dr. Grace engaged her spirituality to survive this crisis, heal and accept the new terms of her life. Three years and 15 surgeries later, Dr. Grace Damman became the Medical Director of the Pain Clinic at San Franciscoâs Laguna Honda Hospital where she had previously worked as a physician for 18 years.
âStates of Graceâ is a documentary film about Dr. Grace Damman, produced and directed by Helen Cohen and Mark Lipman, our guests on this edition of Radio Curious. Â We visited by phone from their home in San Francisco, California, on May 16, 2014, and began our conversation with Helen Cohen describing Dr. Grace Damman, her friend.
The films Helen Cohen recommends are âThe Kiss of the Spider Womanâ and âGuest of Cindy Sherman.â The film Mark Lipman recommends is âSherman's March.â
