Episode 61: Ain't No Generation Gap in Hip- Hop
The KILL RADIO studio was a packed house this week on UNSEEN LEGION RADIO as we welcomed DJ SOUL LIFE as our guest DJ and TEK THA SUPAH LATIN dropped by before he left for the UK on tour with our friend AKIL. DJ Soul Life is a class act. He even brought our good friend PERCEE P (yes, he's Percee P's DJ) along with him and it felt like a bit of a reunion. His set was amazing, blending multiple styles and vibes into a seamless whole. We found out why during the interview as he told us about his father's record collecting in his youth and much more. DJ EARL-E was glad to have a kindred spirit to kick it with and listen to. BIN GRIM was dealing with car issues most of the night, but he was there! And so were MC PROSE and YESKI, along with fellow INASOULBIAN, JA DOX.
Tek tha Supah Latin kept up the intergenerational theme, shouting out his Pops, the legendary CLICK THA SUPAH LATIN, who raised young Tek in proper hip-hop tradition, instilling in him a love, respect and knowledge of the culture that shines in his music and his demeanor. His new album, THA RETURN is one of ULr's most anticipated of 2014 and when you hear his music, you'll know why. We had an excellent conversation covering lots of ground and providing further proof that hip-hop is in very good hands going forward. He even blessed us with a deep story about how he and the homie PAWZ ONE came together to write the heartfelt joint, PRESSURE, which we had to play, of course.
And just when you thought you'd heard it all, we got a call from MC PROSE's buddy FRED EX and MIKE 5TH walked in the door. So we got to chop it up with them and played a dope joint from their new EP, ILLUMINATED FAITH. This was a truly multifaceted, nonstop evening. And we ended the show with a MAJOR EXCLUSIVE: PERCEE P'S KIDS FREESTYLING which we played directly from his cell phone! Yeah, they got skills...6 and 7 years old, they've also got plenty of time to get even better.
