UNSEEN LEGION RADIO - Hosted by the InaSoulbian Crew airs 9pm-midnight PST every Tuesday on www.killradio.org
DJ Earl-E, MC Prose, Yeski Anomiks, Gel-Roc, King Cre8, Paris One
The Unseen Legion is Hip-Hop. And so it is a little bit of the streets. Every street. Everywhere. It is the underdog in the fight, the underground in the struggle. It is hands-on, do-it-yourself, something-out-of-nothing. It is the music and language of survival, all around the world.
The Unseen Legion is people everywhere. In the true Hip-Hop tradition, we pay homage to our roots while taking care of the present, and building for tomorrow.
The Unseen Legion is NOW. It is cultural revolution and spiritual evolution. It is introspection and self-expression. It speaks truth to power... and the music never lies.
Episode 41: Gel Roc's Beautiful Tragedy
Unseen Legion Radio welcomed Whittier native and EX2 member GEL ROC to the studio this week and it was a true pleasure. We'd heard some of his music and were all too happy to help him promote the VINYL release of his 2011 album, BEAUTIFUL TRAGEDY. The surprise came when we began to discuss his history. It turns out that he is a true old-school b-boy with graf roots in the LSD (Lfe Seen Differently) Crew. His life story is another testament to the power of hip-hop culture to transform. Gel Roc (pronounced with a hard "G", like Great or Gravy) went from being arrested on 20/20 as a teenager to a father of 2, recording with the likes of Abstract Rude, Awol One, Aceyalone and many more. We discussed his evolution as a human being and as an artist and he dropped many nuggets and jewels.
We were also joined late by KING CRE8 and PARIS ONE who shouted out Elinka from LSD, who was the bridge between the LSD and RTN Crews. DJ Earl-E dropped some Syria-appropriate joints to start the night, a nice Heiroglyphics Crew set to end the show and there was plenty of great music (Including Gel Roc's) in between. It all adds up to another memorable evening for your dedicated ULR crew. Big up Gel-Rock! Enjoy!
