On the Monday, October 22, Climate Justice Forum radio program hosted by Wild Idaho Rising Tide (http://wildidahorisingtide.org/), we gratefully talk with former Pittsburgh City Council president Doug Shields, an active anti-fracking consultant, prior council member chief-of-staff, and litigation paralegal specializing in environmental and regulatory law (douglas.shields20@gmail.com). Concerned about the human and environmental health impacts of hydraulic fracturing, Doug introduced and secured unanimous passage of a community rights ordinance that prohibited shale gas extraction operations in Pittsburgh, the first such ban in the nation, adopted on November 16, 2010. (See Dougâs brief appearance on Democracy Now!, Pittsburgh Ban on Natural Gas Fracking Faces Challenge from State Authorities, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFUgdj-SINs.) Broadcast on KRFP Radio Free Moscow (http://radiofreemoscow.org/) between 7:30 and 9:30 pm PDT live at 92.5 FM and online, and later aired on KMEC in Ukiah, California, the show also covers continent-wide dirty energy developments and opposition to fossil fuel extraction and transportation projects.
Helen Yost of Wild Idaho Rising Tide offers news and conversations with climate change activists and scientists about corporate dirty energy projects and citizen resistance, interspersed with protest songs and descriptions of grassroots direct actions and community initiatives.
