The logging company Resolute Forest Products started cutting down trees in Barrier Lake last tuesday despite the strong opposition of the Algonquin community. The land includes sacred ground and important moose habitat. There was no consultation with residents, but the Ministry of Natural Resources office in Maniwaki issued permits for the logging to take place anyway. Late last night, SQ police forces were deployed in Barrier Lake.
