Come learn about how communities are responding to the increasingly discriminatory immigration policies affecting working class im/migrants and refugees.
For the last 3 years this event has brought together speakers from both outside of Guelph as well as members from our surrounding community to speak about their experience and work challenging discriminatory, racist and violent policies of exclusion in their various forms affecting working class im/migrant and refugee communities. This event provides the opportunity to learn about, discuss and plan future work and solidarity work around im/migrant justice, while also celebrating the achievements and strengths of communities through music, entertainment, and collectively-made delicious dinner.
Please join us for our fourth year!
Guest speakers at this year's celebration include: Juan, who works under Canada's SAWP; Melissa Paciulan, whose work calls attentions to the wide impact that migration has on the families of migrant farm workers; and Romero House's Lizzie Neale and Teresa Edge.
This is a free event. The 10 Carden Street space is wheelchair accessible except for the washroom, but we are in the process of confirming accessible options.
If you are able, bring a plate, eating utensils and a dish to share.
************Volunteer Call-out for May Day Potluck!************
It's that time of year again for the annual "Status for all!" May Day Community Potluck! Do you want to be part of making it happen? We are a collective led by racialized and/or immigrant Guelph community members and students going by the name of Fuerza/Puwersa, and we do work mostly around migrant worker justice issues. "Fuerza" and "Puwersa" both mean "strength" in Spanish and Tagalog, respectively. Spanish and Tagalog are the languages spoken by the majority of the people we provide support to.
We need volunteers to be part of the potluck committee, the outreach and promo team, set up/take down team, and more! Let us know how you'd like to help out! Contact:
