Host Sunny Gardener and Dr. R. Allen Straw, converse about the effect of herbicides, particularly those in genetically modified grain, on soil life. This is particularly relevant now because our USDAâs Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has received a petition from Dow AgroScience LLC seeking to approve a corn that is resistant to herbicides that normally kill both broad leaf and grass herbicides. If this corn is allowed, then more herbicides will be used, in cocktails that may have greater environmental impact even than these powerful chemicals do individually.
