0:08 - Focus of the medical marijuana/marijuana legalization movement is in Colorado, and has been for awhile.
0:11 - Medical cannabis movement becoming less gay - San Francisco Weekly | 1 Jul 11: http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2011/07/medical_cannabis_movement_beco.php
0:18 - Barney Frank, gay figure article did not mention. Long-time out-front advocate of legalizing marijuana, sponsor of HB 2306. Federal Ban On Pot Targeted By Bill Introduced By Ron Paul, Barney Frank - Huffington Post | 22 Jun 11: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/23/federal-ban-on-pot-bill_n_883652.html
Searching US Code yields the following hits: "marihuana" (53), "marijuana" (21), and "cannabis" (6). There are a lot more hits than codes explicitly cited in HB 2306. http://uscode.house.gov/search/criteria.shtml Rescheduling marijuana on the Controlled Substances Act will mean the prohibition in public housing and the Zero Tolerance contracts the government forces every business it can to sign will no longer apply to marijuana.
0:23 - Government has patents on marijuana for medical use and has licensed 55 companies to process marijuana for medical use while claiming it has no medical value. Thrust is to make it illegal for people to grow their own. To force people to purchase it from someone else in some synthetic, manufactured form. The people who have ruining your lives for decades are now going to control it and force you to buy it from them. That is the thurst of the movement, where 'our' organizations are leading us.
0:26 - 8 versions of same initiative filed in Colorado for 2012 ballot by Sensible/Safer/MPP/NORML. Bitter division between this group and Miguel Lopez and Cannabis Therapy Institute (Legalize 2012). Robert Corey is in the latter camp, one of the most prominent figures in the movement in Colorado. Legalize 2012 Colorado has filed to enjoin the other camp from using the word "legalize" in relation to their Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol initiative as it is not that. Similar ploy as that used by Prop.19 in California where the media and everyone else is calling it legalization when luminaries such as Bill Panzer and Dennis Peron have declared publicly that it was anything but legalization. National organizations are selling prohibition as legalization in both California and Colorado, disenfranchising the grass roots.
0:31 - Marijuana complaint filed with secretary of state - Colorado Independent | 22 Jul 11: http://coloradoindependent.com/94763/marijuana-complaint-filed-with-secretary-of-state Mason Tvert of Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol file complaint accusing Miguel Lopez of stealing a petition with a dozen signatures on it. Lopez said Tvert's organization was disrupting an event by Legalize 2012.
People who are out to exploit marijuana for everything they can, to squeeze patients for every cent they can, are the only people who are putting any money into marijuana reform organizations. Only people paying taxes on marijuana are patients, the sick and dying while medical marijuana defendants are going begging for money for lawyers. Roger Mentch is only one example. Meanwhile, our organizations are calling for taxes and fees on medical marijuana, throwing money at the government, and planting money trees in Times Square.
0:40 - In Colorado, NORML sponsored limit of 5 nanograms per milliliter for being impaired while driving, HR 1261. Robert Corey proclaimed NORML had declared hunting season on patients.
0:48 - Prohibition of cannabis is cultural genocide. The prohibition of marijuana is crime against humanity.
0:50 - THC Limit For Divers Fails in Colorado Senate - Digital Journal | 24 Jul 11: http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/371154 Colorado Senate voted against HB1261, which proposed a DUI limit of five nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood for drivers. NORML did not oppose this bill. The bill overwhelmingly passed the colorado House with a 51-14 vote. ----- "This is a huge victory for patients, who fought to uphold their rights with hundreds of letters and phone calls," said Laura Kriho, spokeswoman for the Cannabis Therapy Institute, an influential opponent of the bill. -----
0:59 - Notes on Cannabis Therapy Institute Conference Denver - palmspringsbum | 3 Jul 11: http://palmspringsbum.org/blog/2011/07/notes-on-cannabis-therapy-institute-conference-denver/ ----- We had our own movement, some elements of our movement, against us, the NORML organization
Legislators see NORML as speaking for our entire movement and if that were the case before that is no longer the case with the defeat of this 1261 bill. Not even close. This is a supposedly pro-marijuana organization endorsing a hunting season on medical marijuana patients.â ------ Majority of states could soon have medical marijuana - The Colorado Independent | 18 Jul 11: http://coloradoindependent.com/94133/majority-of-states-could-soon-have-medical-marijuana
"In addition to Ohio, other states apparently on the cusp include Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Arkansas, Idaho, North Dakota and New Hampshire."
Are we winning the battle only to lose the war? In Ohio, national organizations are sponsoring an initiative to regulate marijuana like alcohol while grass-roots organizations are sponsoring a yet to be written initiative to legalize marijuana. The same dynamic that is playing out in California and Colorado.
1:06 - The surest and quickest way to legalize marijuana is to establish medical marijuana. When these laws come up, read the law. Don't trust these national organizations to do what's right or what's best for you.
1:09 - Two states allow medical use of marijuana for PTSD. California's initiative is the only law that wasn't written or strongly influenced by MPP. It is the only state that allows the medical use of marijuana for psychiatric conditions (any other condition for which marijuana provides relief) and the only state, other than Arizona, that allows its use for PTSD. California is the only state that does not give control of who may be a medical marijuana patient to the government, and it is the only state who's law was not a product of the Marijuana Policy Project.
1:14 - States Differ on Marijuana for PTSD - New York Times | 24 Mar 10 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/us/25pot.html ----- ... a State House committee on Monday narrowly defeated a proposal that would have directed the Department of Public Health and Environment to consider whether marijuana should be used to help people with post-traumatic stress disorder. -----
1:16 - New Jersey Medical Marijuana Law Can go Forward, Says Gov. Christie - Huffington Post | 20 Jul 11 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/20/new-jersey-medical-marijuana_n_904302.html ----- "We are absolutely thrilled that the governor has decided to move forward with the program and we hope that officials in other states who are contemplating options for their programs will follow New Jersey's lead," said Roseanne Scotti with the New Jersey Drug Policy Alliance, the organization that spearheaded the effort to pass the law. ----- WTF would anybody who seriously believes in legalizing marijuana want anyone to follow New Jersey's lead? New Jersey's law screwed about 97% of (potential) medical marijuana patients in New Jersey. They can't grow their own. They will have to buy from one of six dispensaries. Could it be they're not really about legalization?
1:20 - Marijuana treatment sought for chronic PTSD sufferers - Stars and Stripes | 20 Jul 11: http://www.stripes.com/news/special-reports/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd/marijuana-treatment-sought-for-chronic-ptsd-sufferers-1.149688 ----- The proposal, from the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies in Santa Cruz, Calif., and a researcher at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, would look at the potential benefits of cannabis by examining 50 combat veterans who have not responded to other treatment... -----
1:23 - Mass Psychosis in the US: How Big Pharma Hooked Americans on Drugs - Common Dreams | 9 Aug 11 http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/07/16-1 ----- In 2008, with over $14 billion in sales, antipsychotics became the single top-selling therapeutic class of prescription drugs in the United States, surpassing drugs used to treat high cholesterol and acid reflux. -----
Tardive dyskinesia: a disease caused only by pharmaceuticals. Imagine what people would say if marijuana caused anything remotely like tardive dyskinesia. In fact, marijuana stop tremors, including tardive dyskinesia. In minutes. ----- The atypical anti-psychotics were the bright new stars in the pharmaceutical industry's roster of psychotropic drugs - costly, patented medications that made people feel and behave better without any shaking or drooling. -----
"Shaking or drooling" is pharmalordspeak for tardive dyskinesia. ----- The use of psychoactive drugsâincluding both antidepressants and antipsychoticsâhas exploded, and if the new drugs are so effective, Angell points out, we should "expect the prevalence of mental illness to be declining, not rising." Instead, "the tally of those who are so disabled by mental disorders that they qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) increased nearly two and a half times between 1987 and 2007 - from one in 184 Americans to one in seventy-six. For children, the rise is even more startling - a thirty-five-fold increase in the same two decades. Mental illness is now the leading cause of disability in children."
...
According to a recent Columbia University study, the number of children and adolescents treated for bipolar disorder rose 40-fold between 1994 and 2003." And according to another study, "one in five children who visited a psychiatrist came away with a prescription for an antipsychotic drug." -----
While the article mentions that these drugs often make patients worse, it fails to explore the possibility that the increase in psychiatric disabilites (documented by SSI and SSDI claims) is the result of the use of these pharmaceuticals.
These drugs are causing the diseases for which they are being prescribed.
