Miles Howe is a journalist with the Halifax Media Co-op. We last spoke with him on June 28th aboard the Canadian ship the Tahrir in a small port town in Greece. Carrying medical supplies, they were part of the Freedom Flotilla II â a fleet of 11 ships who were gathering to attempt to break Israelâs blockade of Gaza. Two of the ships were sabotaged. Others were harassed with lawsuits and bureaucratic red-tape from the Greek Coast Guard, delaying their departures. Greek authorities then prohibited all flotilla ships from leaving, especially for the port of Gaza. Despite the ban, the Tahrir and crew attempted to evade the Greek Coast Guard but were captured and brought to port after a high seas chase. On July 9th, the Tahrir officially threw in the towel on making it to Gaza this time.
After the plug is pulled on the Freedom Flotillaâs foiled attempts by sea, we join Miles Howe in Cairo, July 11th on route to Gaza by land.
