This is the full 5-16-11 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
You could call todayâs episode the Motherâs Day edition. In Latin American, Motherâs Day is always held on May 10th. NALACC, the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities utilized this past Mothers Day to call on the Obama administration to stop its policy of massive numbers of deportations of undocumented immigrants. We will hear more on today's program about their Motherâs Day message to mother Michelle Obama.
We will also hear about another group of mothers who organized a Parent Summit for the parents of students in Chicago public schools held at the Whittier School in Pilsen. Weâll hear from these mothers about the state of the fight against privatization of the public school system in Chicago, for great school funding, more community control over schools and the on going struggle over La Casita at Whittier.
Weâll also hear from Labor History professor Steven Ashby about the plans for Labor Notes Troublemakers School which will be held here in Chicago next Saturday. You definitely want to stay tuned for that.
And we will wrap up todayâs program with an update on the situation in post coup Honduras with Alexy Lanza of La Voz de los de Abajo.
