This is the full 1-24-11 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
On this Mondayâs episode of Labor Express Radio we began our coverage of the upcoming municipal elections in Chicago with audio from a rally outside a Rahm Emmanuel for mayor fundraiser. Some of those at the rally were there to express their concerns that Rahm Emmanuel will continue the pro-corporate, pro-privatization agenda begun under the Daley administration. Others, especially a group of transit workers, were there to call attention to issues they feel have been largely ignored by all the mayoral candidates, especially increased funding for mass transit. Over the next several weeks, Labor Express will spend considerable time looking at the candidates and issues surrounding the municipal elections.
Also on this episode - Chicago Jobs with Justice's Unemployed Workers Council and the Chicago Anti-Eviction Campaign are organizing a public meeting February 10th about the economic and housing crisis in Chicago and how you can get involved in the movement to fight for jobs and against foreclosures. And students at the University Of Illinois, members of the Undergraduate-Graduate Alliance (UGA) are calling for a freeze on tuition and fee increases and are calling for the university to establish a Dream ACT scholarship fund for undocumented immigrant students.
