On this weekâs episode of Labor Express Radio weâll hear about a strike currently underway in Franklin Park, a Suburb near Chicagoâs OâHare Airport. Many of the workers at Ex-Cell Metal Products have worked their more than 20 years and yet the still make barely above minimum wage. Now management wants the workers to pay much higher rate for their health insurance.
Weâll also hear about a Lock-Out in the Southern Illinois town of Metropolis Illinois. Workers at the Honeywell International Inc. plant in Metropolis, a plant that processes uranium, have been locked out since June 28th and negotiations appear to be at an impasse, despite the unionâs willingness to return to work, even without a new contract.
In the second half of todayâs program we will return to our look at the fight for living wages in Chicago in the wake of the agreement reached in June between the Chicago Federation of Labor and Wal-Mart. Weâll talk with Amisha Patel, Executive Director of the Grassroots Collaborative, one of the lead organizations in the living wage fight in Chicago for the last decade.
