In the first hour, Indigenous elder, Rena Whitestar shares her perspective on the Gulf oil disaster. Whitestar suggested herbal remedies to alleviate the toxic impact of chemicals as well.
In the second hour Bee Vadakan, Program Manager of Program in Community and Agroecology at UCSC discussed the programs offered through the Sustainable Living Center. Vadakan talked about the opportunities students have to gain hands-on experience in sustainable technologies and community food systems. "We believe that with such experience stsudents can become engaged agents of change within their communities and embody the values of environmental consciousness and social justice to create a more sustainable world."
