Here is a recording of a gathering that took place @ Crab Park, DTES Vancouver, on friday the 31st of july, to honor the existence of Lisa Arlene Francis, a woman living in the DTES who's body was found in the Fraser river.
Each year women, principally native disapear under reocuring circumstances, used as prostitutes, raped and assasinated.
Women from the power of women group and the walk4justice express their despair and recognize their helplessness in the situation. "How many more will they take"? Even though the conscientization campaign is known, nothing that has come before it have really been effective in stopping the perpetuation of murders, kidnappings, rapes... They ask the State to intervene with more force, but can we really wait for this instrument of patriarchy to intervene against the power men have ? Especially when it is well know in the case of the Pickton farm, for example, that there were obvious complicities between the hells angels, the politicians and the landlords. Is it not now the time to organize ourselves in our day to day life, to stand up against these men, to confront, to combat, to counter-rape when necessary, to destroy their markets, to take back the power in groups, in communities, as warriors that recognize we have nothing more to expect from the authorities that rule this system of exploitation ?
