The downtown core of Vancouver is built out, leading developers to set their sights on the downtown eastside where more than 1300 units of housing have been lost since Vancouver won the Olympic bid. The City of Vancouver bought 18 SRO hotels over the past year but local housing activists say that more action is needed to prevent a sharp rise in homelessness by the time of the Winter Games.
