TWO WEEKS AGO, A YOUNG PAKISTANI VILLAGER NAMED MUKHTAR MAI CAME TO THE UNITED STATES TO RECEIVE THE "WOMAN OF THE YEAR" AWARD FROM GLAMOUR MAGAZINE AND SPEAK AS AN ADVOCATE FOR THE RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF POOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN HER COUNTRY. YESTERDAY HUNDREDS ATTENDED A QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION WITH HER, HELD AT COOPER UNION HALL. THE EVENT WAS SPONSORED BY AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL AND THE ASIAN AMERICAN NETWORK AGAINST THE ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS. FRED NGUYEN ATTENDED AND FILES THIS REPORT:
