From JAPAN- The UN IAEA recommended that Japan deal with the ever-growing volume of radioactive water being stored at Fukushima. International experts are discussing nuclear disarmament at a meeting in Japan, worried about US plans to leave the intermediate weapons treaty with Russia. The Dalai Lama has said discussions to choose his successor will begin later this month.
From CUBA- Construction crews are working on a new 4 mile long 18 foot high steel wall on the US/Mexican border along El Paso Texas. Former UN Sec General Ban ki Moon has denounced the US health care system as unethical, unfair, and outright wrong. In Paris at the tribute to soldiers who perished in WW1, French President Macron warned about the threat of rising nationalism including the US- after the ceremony 70 heads of state attended the Paris Peace Forum- only Trump failed to attend. Several reports on the deadly violence on the Gaza Strip this week, following an Israeli commando raid which killed 7 Hamas members.
From RUSSIA- Afshin Rattansi interviewed Palestinian journalist Abdel Bari Atwan about the recent battle between Hamas and Israeli IDF forces. They discuss the deadly bombing of the Hamas TV station and the commando raid which ended a successful ceasefire. They also talk about Trump's statement that there should be no presidential election in Afghanistan next year.
From SPAIN- Alison Hughes reports on the US changing its stated mission in the war in Syria, and will not pull out by the end of the year- US troops will remain until all Iranian support is withdrawn. The Spanish government has presented a draft law on climate change and energy transition, with the goal of achieving standards agreed upon in the Paris Accords. The Israeli Defense Minister Lieberman resigned over the cabinets decision to accept an Egyptian mediated ceasefire with Palestine.
