This is the last of five consecutive shows covering the full-day conference "Balfour’s Legacy: Confronting the Consequences," held on November 11, 2017 at the First Parish Church in Cambridge MA. (The same five shows were originally aired last fall, but in different order.)

Long celebrated by Zionists and condemned by justice activists, the so-called Balfour Declaration, 100 years ago, is credited with setting in motion the creation of the state of Israel on Palestinian land ... without consulting Palestinians. On paper, it was a 67-word letter signed in 1917 by Lord Arthur Balfour, then Britain's Foreign Secretary, who made no effort to conceal his racist and antisemitic views.

We'll hear Leila Farsakh, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, also a senior research fellow at Birzeit University in the West Bank of Palestine. Leila gives her Introduction and Overview of 100 years of the Balfour Declaration.

Then we'll hear Nancy Murray, longtime activist for Palestinian Rights, a co-founder of the Gaza Mental Health Foundation, and a key organizer of this Balfour Legacy Conference. Nancy speaks on the Consequences of the Balfour Declaration ... specifically for the USA.

Before this, we take a look at the last fall's emerging story involving the confession of Former US National Security Advisor Michael Flynn to lying to the FBI about efforts of the incoming Trump Administration to help Israel avoid censure at the UN Security Council concerning its illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land. The mainstream media is handling this as a story involving Flynn’s collusion with the Russians, but you hear or read little about the fact that much of this involvement is at the behest of Israel. As usual, the media is quick to blame the Russians, and slow to include Israel’s heavy-handed involvement. We'll read Ali Abunimah's exposé of this in Electronic Intifada, and later an article on the same subject by Richard Silverstein in Middle East Eye.
This Week In Palestine (a weekly 8am feature of Truth and Justice Radio (TJR)) is an award-winning 45-minute (or more) segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them. TJR is aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, also streamed live and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's modest website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; editions are also accessible at radio4all.net or by navigating through our playlists. TJR sometimes airs Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine. We hope you'll write to us at tjradio@fastmail.com if you rebroadcast our work, or have questions or comments.
