Thousands of tundra swans can be seen at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge in November, feeding and loafing in the shallow backwaters of the river. They are attracted to the refuge in large numbers because they love the wild celery and arrowhead tubers, which grow abundantly in shallow, quiet pools found in the river’s backwaters. Learn more about these big eaters and where you can see them on our podcast.
