As we enter Black History Month, Back in the USSR examines how racism began in North America and how the concept of "whiteness" was invented by the colonial elite in the American colonies to keep European bonded laborers from joining hands with African slaves in rebellion. By granting privileges to people of European descent at the expense of people of color, the capitalist class has maintained its power over American society - by effectively recruiting white people as the guards and enforcers of a class order built on exploitation and Apartheid. For the system to fall, the guards must rebel.
