Robin Philpot praises celebrated Canadian actor, Roy Dupuis, for objecting to the movie Revenant for its portrayal of French fur-trappers as violent and racist. Philpot pointed out Dupuis has turned down the part of the trapper Toussaint, because the producers would not let him read the script. Dupuis has said French trappers in the âAmerican Westâ were the dominant group and had been accepted by Native Americans much more readily because they came for trade in furs and not for land. The development of Metis communities was a result of this policy. A new book is soon to be published by Baraka Books which will document the role of French trappers/traders and put to rest myths about Americaâs Anglo-supremacist hero trappers as found in this ultra-violent dishonest film, Revenant.
