Putin recently authored a long article on the lessons of the 75th anniversary of the defeat of Nazism in WWII. He is calling for a meeting of leaders of the P5 countries, indicating that there is a serious problem affecting peace and stability in the world.

He writes that the three wartime leaders of the Allied powers laid down a mechanism for the greater powers to maintain peace for 75 years. The veto of permanent members of the UN Security Council are the only reasonable alternative to a major conflict between great powers, who should seek compromises instead.

Calls for eliminating veto powers would reduce the UN to the League of Nations irrelevancy. Moreover, Western media failed us completely on Putin's speech. This was an important essay by a major world figure calling for collective action at this critical moment.
