Ed King left school concerned about opportunities in the UK and worked teaching English in China and Kazakhstan in Asia and Slovakia in Eastern Europe. Teaching in China begins at 7:15 every day and ends at 10pm but he and his fellow teachers were even denied exercise books to aid childrens learning. Schools were six-day a week compulsory factory-like institutions in horribly polluted cities like Henan. Kazakhstan was bleak but a better teaching environment. Ed was approached at the UK airport by someone he believed was hinting that he might make a good spy for the British intelligence service out in Asia.
