Conditions have worsened in Haiti as the coup-installed oligarchs of Haiti have resorted to heavy repression, to fatten the rich at the expense of the poor. PetroCaribe was envisioned by Hugo Chavez as a way to assist Haitian development. But with Aristide forcefully sidelined from leading his people, criminals disguised as politicians have siphoned the profits of cheaper oil for their own benefit.

All this happens because the US controls the politics. But there is profound unrest in the country, and Lavalas remains the voice of the people.
