GM announced plant closings in the US and Canada this past December. Autoworkers on both sides of the border and their wider communities responded with anger and organized protest. In this New Year, real plans are emerging from the affected plants and their affiliates. Slogans such as, "Seize the Plant, Save the Planet" and "Make Detroit/Oshawa the engine for a green new deal."

The companies have taken drastic, callous steps to protect their profits. Now it is time for workers to think big and take dramatic steps to protect their jobs and improve their wages and conditions. Electric cars, perhaps?
